Crude Mag's Call for Help and Why You Should Support Small/Local Businesses
Posted on August 31 2018
As I was scrolling through my newsfeed today, I came across this post/video from Crude Magazine. I read the post and watched the video and was going to hit “share”, but then I really thought about it. I thought about the real impact of what he’s saying. Not just from a journalism standpoint, but an even bigger view. The importance of supporting your local economy and/or small businesses in general. I thought this was a good opportunity to share my opinion (isn't it always? lol).
Most people don't think about the impact that their dollar has. In a world full of financial insecurity, streaming/pirating, online shopping, and instant gratification, the sense of community has pretty much disappeared. We’re all looking for a bargain, for next day free delivery, for a logo for $5. I’m guilty of it myself. You know what I’m saying. We don’t think about the people behind it all. The people counting on their local community to support what they’re doing.
Most people never see the "behind-the-scenes" of entrepreneurship. The sleepless nights. Wondering how you're going to pay the bills. Wondering if people are going to like what you put out there or if it's going to tank. Working your ass off. Wondering if you made the right decision, or if you should just go back to that 9-to-5 steady paycheck and security you threw away.
Starting your own thing, whatever that may be, is hard. Really hard. In fact, you're probably going to work harder than you ever have in your life. Usually for a lot less money, at least initially. You’re going to question yourself. On some really dark days, you’ll even question your worth. But I promise you, this thing is worth it.
Remember why you started this thing (whatever that may be for you) in the first place. Remind yourself of how good it feels to share your passion with the people around you. We’ve all got a dream of doing big things. We just don’t all have the courage to leap into the unknown.
So to all my fellow entrepreneurs, keep on hustling. Keep on supporting each other. I heard a quote somewhere along the way (I wish I could remember where) that really resonated with me. “I’m not interested in competing with anyone. I hope we all make it.” And that’s just it. I hope we all succeed. Every one of us.
And to everyone else, please, if you can, please support your local businesses/entrepreneurs. Without you guys, none of it is possible. I promise you, it doesn't go unnoticed or unappreciated.
